Scripture Habit - Week 3 "Eat"
Below is a practice called Lectio Divina. This practice comes from the 6th century when followers of Jesus began to read the Bible over and over in quiet, turning the phrases over in their minds and hearts in order to hear God's voice. Bonhoeffer defined it as "The prayerful consideration of Scripture."
Lectio Divina - The Divine Reading of Scripture (4 Steps)
Below is a practice called Lectio Divina. This practice comes from the 6th century when followers of Jesus began to read the Bible over and over in quiet, turning the phrases over in their minds and hearts in order to hear God's voice. Bonhoeffer defined it as "The prayerful consideration of Scripture."
Lectio Divina - The Divine Reading of Scripture (4 Steps)
- Read (Lectio) - Read a passage (usually short) slowly and deliberately. Notice if a phrase or word catches your attention. Spend a moment with that word or phrase. Why did this word resonate with you?
- Meditate (Meditatio) - Chew on it. Read the passage again and reflect on what phrase is again jumping off the page. How is this idea or thought connected to you and your situation?
- Pray (Oratio) - Now we turn our hearing back to God. Speak to him about the phrase and the passage. Spend as much time as needed here.
- Contemplate (Contemplatio) - Gaze upon God. Notice his presence. What is he calling you to or saying to you in this team?

Join us Nov. 8 from 8:30-2:30 for a one-day women’s retreat at GC with guest speaker Patty Asaad. What’s the Point? reminds us it’s not about the pain, but the purpose. Cost is $20 and includes specialty coffee, catered lunch, and more. This retreat is geared toward ages 14+.
Pie Social is one of our most loved holiday traditions. Save the date for Wednesday, Nov. 26, at 6:30 pm for dessert first! Bring your favorite pie or holiday dessert and get ready to feast.
